What is Ashoka?
Established in 1981, Ashoka is the world's largest network of social entrepreneurs. Like business entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs are leaders with creative solutions, but they focus their talent and energy on solving social problems and driving change. By naming the world's best social entrepreneurs as "Ashoka Fellows," Ashoka has championed their cause and supported their work for the last 30 years. As they take on tough challenges in education, health, environment, and many other fields, Ashoka Fellows change millions of lives, influence public policy, and set standards for others to follow. VISION : EVERYONE A CHANGEMAKER
Ashoka envisions a world where all people have the opportunity and ability to build a better life for themselves and others. Everyone can be-and should be-a changemaker. Improving the world should be a normal part of every life, from the student who wants to end bullying at her school, to neighbors hoping to create safer communities, to professionals from all walks of life who want to make a meaningful contribution to society.
APPROACH
Ashoka strives to build a robust citizen sector, capable of responding quickly and effectively to social challenges. To ensure that the leading ideas for social change are identified and supported, we approach the sector with three key strategies:
- Supporting individual social entrepreneurs
- Promoting collaboration between social entrepreneurs
- Creating systems (social financing models, partnerships) for the sector
